Mulled Wine – Vin Brûlé – Gløgg – Recipe

Mulled wine, also known as Vin Brûlé in some Italian regions, or Gløgg in the Nordic countries, is the perfect cozy drink to kick off the Christmas feeling. Preparing mulled wine in Singapore might feel a bit unconventional due to the warm weather, but I still love the mix of red wine infused with spices like cinnamon, cloves and fruits for the cozy vibes it brings. I eventually adjusted the recipe to suit the hot weather serving it chilled with ice cubes, or at room temperature. It was a fun experiment! (Francesca)

Mulled Wine – Vin BrûléGløgg

Mulled Wine - Vin Brûlé - Gløgg - Recipe

  • 750ml red wine
  • 150g sugar
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 4 slices apple
  • a handful of cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cloves
  • 5 star anises

  • Zest the lemon and the orange. Use a vegetable peeler to carefully peel off large pieces of the yellow and orange part of the skin only. 
  • Place all the ingredients in a saucepan. Cover and bring to the boil, stirring to help the sugar dissolve.
  • Simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain the wine through a nylon sieve.
  • Serve hot in glasses, with some spice to decorate.
