Easy steamed artichokes

This week we bought fresh artichokes to prepare a dish which is sophisticated in its semplicity. The only thing that is necessary to make this dish perfect is fresh artichokes of high quality, like the ones we found at Mercatino delle verdure.

INGREDIENTS for 4 servings:

4 fresh artichokes
200 gr salted butter of good quality
1 lemon

Rinse the artichokes and dry them with a paper towel.

Now trim the artichokes. With a sharp knife, cut off and discard the top of the artichoke.   Trim the outer leaves and then remove the tough leaves until you get to the internal tender leaves.AdobePhotoshopExpress_2017_12_17_09_38_33 Place the artichokes in a bowl with water and 1 lemon cut in two.

Meanwhile, set a steamer basket in a large pot and half-fill the pot with water.

Bring the water to a boil, then place the artichokes in the steamer basket. Cover the pot and steam for about 10-15 minutes, until the artichokes are tender.


Drain carefully the artichokes. Serve warm with melted butter and a pinch of pepper.
